Rudders for Hardshell Kayaks
Feathercraft was the original maker of the deck mounted flip-up rudder. It features a black anodized blade, a CNC’d delrin rudder block, a CNC’d black anodized delta, and a 10cm injection molded plastic pulley. (CNC: Computer Numerical Control – a precise method of cutting.) This combination allows the rudder fin to hang vertically for more “bite” in the water, and provides smooth and easy movement to raise and lower the fin.
Our blades are black anodized, not powder coated, to prevent corrosion. The fins are aerofoil shaped to obtain maximum efficiency.
Rudders are designed for either single or double kayaks, with both standard and extended blades available.
We offer three styles of mounting pins: one designed for an end-pour, and two designed to fit onto brackets mounted on the stern.
NOTE: We do not supply or manufacture mounting brackets, foot braces or track.
For mounting end-pour style rudders, a hole is made in the stern deck to accept the stainless steel mounting pin.
A washer with spacer is screwed to the deck with a 1/4″ OD screw. This overlaps the disc at the base of the rudder block. The rudder is held down, but can still pivot.
